READING THE NEWS
/Cheri and I are busy again. The real estate market was down about 70% in Kingston in April, compared to the same time last year. But May saw a lot of that ground recovered. And June is just plain busy. We’re grateful and bewildered in equal measure. We’re not used to being out of our homes. And not used to our cars being loaded down with orderly rows of masks and gloves. These are not normal times.
Last night I was reading the headlines online. Shaking my head and muttering all the while. I’d seen far too many videos of cops hauling away black people for nothing more than daring to speak, dragging kids out of their cars after tazing them, going after others with tear gas and batons (and even some damn fool jumping from his car and pulling out his bow and arrow to shoot at protestors). All of it triggered by fresh unspeakable scenes of murder. What I did not see was the reverse - physical attacks on these police officers. The Globe and Mail clearly needs a new headline writer. This casual and offensive rewriting of what’s been going down this last week is something that should leave them ashamed.
