The Bigger Picture
It’s true. Out back of this true four-bedroom Calvin Park home, with its excellent renovations and its finished basement, is a yard splendidly organized, with an in-ground pool and covered verandah with hot tub. Right now there's an exercise bike out there, and a bbq too. It feels like the sort of outdoor space a location scout might find for her film star client to swan around in when not on set. A rain or shine sort of experience. And perhaps it's also the Kingston home you'd given up on finding.
We like Calvin Park very much. The generally wide streets more like boulevards. The big trees and big building lots. The proximity to the downtown core and also the west end, the waterfront and the highway east and west. It seems a smart place to live, a place you settle in when all the pieces have fallen into place.
Indoors is every bit the garden's match, with everything revolving around a pretty maple kitchen (a galley, I suppose, though more spacious than that can sometimes sound) finished with liberal helpings of granite and stainless steel. The cabinets reach to the ceiling and are finished with crown moulding. Their elegant satin faces remind me obscurely of a modern library, the room where the first editions are housed away from the light, an attendant in white gloves and a ladder he wheels about for the topmost volumes.
What else can we tell you before your gaze drifts to the photos and from then on to the full virtual tour?
Well, the living room is arranged around a gas fireplace and stone chimney. It’s a bright room but also a warm one, with dark hardwood floors.
And the master bedroom, just so you know, has what feels like its own dressing room. There’s a door out to the space above the garage that feels mysterious to us and I think we’d be exploring the possibility of building a deck out there, a sunny spot from which to survey the pool and all the A-listers gathered around it.
The attached garage even has a plug-in for your electric car.
