IN PRAISE OF MUZZ

I’ve been listening to the Muzz album a lot the last few months. I’ve turned to it more than to any other. Paul Banks is the biggest name here. He heads up Interpol too, and truth is I’d consider myself lucky to just have him in the same room insulting me with that voice.  Matt Barrick was drummer with The Walkmen and Josh Kaufman has been around for ages, most recently with folk band Bonny Light Horseman. It’s a melancholic and at the same time blissed-out record, the prettiest songs I’ve heard in ages. When things threaten to get away on me, this brilliant record is where, more often than not, I hide.

Here’s a link to a video for the rowdiest of their songs. Sometimes when I listen to this piece, I mean really listen, I am convinced I’ve never heard anything quite like it.
