June 2013

Teak Sofa

June 27, 2013. Humans are acquisitive creatures. Some faint glow at the base of our brain stem wants us to be forever storing up for the long winter ahead. It’s a survival instinct that makes the chest freezer salespeople pretty happy. But I’m pretty sure it’s some branch of that same instinct that has us storing up on socks and shirts and cars and smartphones.

It’s just a fence, I recognize and acknowledge that, but it’s made so much difference this spring to my sense of wellbeing that I’d like to dwell a moment or two on this pretty length of freshly-installed white cedar, perhaps even figure out why it makes me feel the way it does.
